Uphill Crusade to Reclaim a Family Portrait--Beauty & Truth
In Woman in Gold, Helen Mirren, chameleon-like, inhabits the body and personality of Maria Altmann, niece and heir of a prominent Jewish family in pre-WWII Vienna. The family's best-known member today is Maria's aunt Adele, whose portrait Gustav Klimt painted in 1907. The painting was appropriated during the Nazi era and for many years hung in the Austrian state's famous Belvedere Gallery, as "the Mona Lisa of Vienna." After her sister's death, Maria finds correspondence suggesting the painting was perhaps not left to the government of Austria in her aunt's will, as it claimed, and therefore not rightfully Austrian property. She hires a family friend's son, Randol Schoenberg (played by Ryan Reynolds), a young down-on-his-luck Los Angeles attorney, to look into the matter. Schoenberg, grandson of the composer—another refugee from Nazified Austria—is out of touch with his family's past and slow to recognize the significance of Maria's quest. Initially unwilling to take on the case, he is gradually drawn into it. Their bureaucratic battles with stonewalling Austrian officials soon unite the pair, and they are joined by a crusading Austrian journalist, Hubertus Czernin. Formidable legal and bureaucratic hurdles stand in the way of Maria being reuniting with the painting—"When you look at this painting, you see a work of art," Marie tells a reunification commission, "I see my aunt." The story is another in a long line of mostly not happy stories of stolen art works in World War II, brought to renewed public awareness by movies and books like The Monuments Men and Pictures at an Exhibition. The opportunity to reunite beloved works of art and their owners is rapidly disappearing, yet this beautifully filmed movie, directed by Simon Curtis, shows the importance of continuing these efforts. Because this film is based on a true story, and I for one remembered how it ends, a certain inevitability about the outcome guides the plot. Perhaps this is what has caused reviewers (not me!) to find it dull, though they find the actors captivating. As a result of the strong positive audience reception, the film's distributor will greatly expand its national distribution. If you like stories that touch on beauty, truth, and justice, you will like it, too!

Child 44 Full Movie Download

Posted on July 22, 2015 by delhi
A disgraced member of the military police investigates a series of nasty child murders during the Stalin-era Soviet Union.

Director:

 Daniel Espinosa

Writers:

Richard Price (screenplay), Tom Rob Smith(novel)

Stars:

Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace

Storyline

Based on the first of a trilogy by Tom Rob Smith and set in the Stalin era of the Soviet Union. The plot is about an idealistic pro-Stalin security officer who decides to investigate a series of child murders in a country where supposedly this sort of crime doesn't exist. The state would not hear of the existence of a child murderer let alone a serial killer. He gets demoted and exiled but decides, with just the help of his wife, to continue pursuing the case. Written by Arnold

WELL worth seeing (and more than once)
Banned in Russia? Yesterday, with just my sister and I in the audience in Rhode Island, I thought Child 44 had been banned in the US as well! What a shame..this is an engrossing movie that holds very true to Tom Rob Smith's novel (although the compelling storyline of Leo's own childhood was truncated to near oblivion, and the key subplot of Raisa's loyalties undeveloped). I went of course, because anything with both Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman (and that makes four films now) is well worth buying a ticket to, and the rest of the cast was sterling as well (Paddy Considine a bit wasted but you'll never see a better club foot shuffle). I can't heap enough praise on Tom. Did he once say he nailed his roles by first starting with the walk? Well, here he has a Forest Bondurant shamble with more plod that ideally captured a stolid man with no faith in where his next step would lead him. You can't encapsulate 75 years of soul sapping repression and brutality with one honest portrayal, but Tom so ably reflected the plight of the honest man under Stalinism that you are left with great admiration for the resilience of the Russian character, not just horror at the degree of institutionalized hypocrisy. This film should not be banned in Russia – it should be shown everywhere as a testimony to the nobility of human spirit that could survive Stalinism, whatever the psychological aftermath.

I saw at Rotten Tomatoes the caption "a thriller without thrills" and feel that is so unfair. It seems American critics, like the wider audience, can't bear a slower developing plot anymore. If there were "no murders" in the Soviet Union, there is equally no patience in the USA…we want ten murders a minute. Perhaps the trailers should have featured the fight scenes, because they were savage and visceral. All I can say is don't stay away because of what the reviews claim – this is a beautifully photographed film true to the novel, with amazing performances that will hit home the brutality of the era and the courage, cunning, and luck it took one individual to "beat" the system.

As for Tom Hardy – imo he is hands down the best actor of his generation. Hands down. His last few roles in films that were largely ignored indies, (the tour de force Locke with the Welsh accent, the small town wise guy noir, with the humble Jersey accent, and now Child 44, with his exaggerated Russian) were all masterful performances and he is building, building, building on a filmography that I hope someday soon is realized with the iconic roles he deserves.

This is the disaster movie of disaster movies.

This is a great movie. It shows an entire city not only being hit by the biggest and strongest earthquake in history but then hit by a three hundred foot high tsunami that finishes the job. This is the disaster movie of disaster movies. No need for a strong story here. The special effects provides more than enough drama. The actual characters in the movie are ancillary to the story. It's about nature going wild, and on a scale that is beyond measuring. At the conclusion of the movie, San Francisco is a mess. Paul Giamatti is fantastic, and also quite amusing, as the scientist who predicts that the earthquake will strike
  • and nobody believes him until it is too late. By that time, the

Hoover Dam is history and the rest of California is next in line. LA also gets hit, hard, but the director saves the best special effects for San Francisco. If you like movies that show total devastation, then this movie is for you. This movie delivers the goods!

Not a typical Sci-fi, thats what makes it great
The trailer of the movie talks about the black sheep, that is being different, So I would say this one was the black sheep in the world of sci-fi movies.

The story of a robot, which is being depicted in unbiased manner( not robot-as-a-monster or robot-as-an-angel movie) is quiet refreshing. The robot Chappie not just marvels you but make you emotional at times. So be prepared to get your eyes drenched at times. I think these are some of those moments when you feel this is not a sci-fi or action stereotype, but that is what makes it wonderful.

Action cuts are great(very less of them), actor have done wonderful job (especially the lady who acts as Chappies "mommie")

Loved it.

does what it's supposed to do, though unlikely to resonate for non-fans
The family of street racers are back…again; there are personal matters at stake…again; circumstances have forced them to team up for one last ride…again. Having successfully defeated criminal mastermind Owen Shaw, members of the crew have gone their separate ways. Little did they know about Shaw's big, bad—and ingeniously resourceful—brother Deckard, who comes lurking out of the shadows for revenge (heretofore unseen big brother comes to avenge little brother, truly a novel cinematic idea!). Add to the mix a few other ruthless bad guys, some shady and seemingly indestructible federal agents, a beautiful woman with brains, some rough-and-tumble fight scenes, one ridiculously over-the-top action sequence after another, and the stage is set for pretty much everything you've come to expect from this long-running franchise. Logic, character development, and story continuity/credibility take a backseat to needless exposition, crowd-pleasing one-liners, and superfluous action set pieces, like you'd expect, but the presence of series veterans, effective casting in key roles, and knowledge that this is the late Paul Walker's final film give it much more weight than it should. **

What were they smoking?
I don't remember the last time I went to a movie, and almost walked out in the first 5 minutes to ask for a refund. That is how quickly I sensed I was in a disaster.

I usually enjoy sci-fi movies and don't nitpick them to death. I'm used to being let down by the likes of Green Lantern and John Carter, and still finding them adequately entertaining.

However, this was some convoluted mess. It seemed slapped together. The soundtrack seemed like some stock hack job. Characters were not developed at all. Stuff randomly jumped around. The "universe" seemed inconsistent, incoherent, and generally muddled. This just outright hurt to sit through. I gave it a chance, but it didn't get better. I tried wondering if I'd have liked it if it was my first movie, and I was maybe 12. No, I don't think so.

Anyway, this is now at the top of my Razzie list for at least the last couple decades. I've seen a *lot* of movies. Though I'd normally rather watch Mila Kunis for two hours over John Travolta in weird space dreadlocks... I think I'd rather watch Battlefield Earth again over this... thing. Wow. This was really really really bad. It's not even worthy of Showgirls-like cult status. This one should have people mocking it for at least a generation. Especially the ears.

Where Do I Start...
First off , Will Smith absolutely played his course with these playboy roles. Im not buying it anymore dude. Secondly Margot is gorgeous but she is too gorgeous to play a believable femme fatale. I felt the acting was outstanding for obvious reasons. But the films two stars weren't right fits for the parts i feel like. Big names , great faces, add the amazing chemistry and this should have taken off as a great movie. But it hasn't and I think the missing element was the fact that Will in unbelievable and so is she.

If the characters are not believable you do not have a movie. But i will say it was well made, well acted and it wasn't too drawn out. I actually really liked it till i realized maybe a Ryan Gosling and a Mara Rooney could have been a nice mix or a female that has an edgy look mixed with the James Bond look. Idk , this just didn't do it for me at the end of the day.

Great intelligent intellectual story, Above average screenplay,Great locations and filming dynamic-- automatically 7 star movie..

Pixels 2015 Full Movie

When aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth in the form of the video games.

Director:

 Chris Columbus

Writers:

Tim Herlihy (screenplay), Timothy Dowling(screenplay), 2 more credits »

Stars:

Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan

Storyline

As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie "The Fire Blaster" Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times - at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they're going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults -- and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens. Written by Sony Pictures Entertainment

Pixels is packed with vibrant visuals and nostalgic charm that offsets slouchy Sandler and his awkward humor.
Nostalgia is a powerful emotion but also the only word that can entirely describe Pixels - a sci-fi adventure masquerading as a comedy. While this film has every reason to fail as a comedy, it can still appeal to a specific audience - kids of the 80s, and the current generation of pre-teens yet to discover the trappings of social media.

That's a generation gap of 30 years, but the defining moment that bridges this gap is the mutual love for video games. Back in the day, the social norm was to get out of the house, walk to the arcade, spend a few hours with real friends, and vie for social standing as a champion gamer. It felt real with moments that bring back joyous memories that not even a thousand friends on Facebook can match today. On the flip side, gamers are still typecast as nerds, and this is what the film attempts to say. It's 1982 and gaming prodigy Sam has a shot at the Guinness Book championship title. Backed by his gaming chums Will and Ludlow, Sam reaches the finals in a faceoff against narcissist nemesis Eddie 'The Fire Blaster'. Also present is NASA who records the competition and sends it into space to contact alien life. Wrong move. Cut to present day and Will (Kevin James) is the President of the USA (there's hope for gamers?) while Sam (Adam Sandler) and Ludlow (Josh Gad) are everyday losers. Turns out, those aliens

The fact that Sandler is still pigeonholed as a sad-sack from his Happy Madison Productions (from Happy Gilmore to last year's The Cobbler) can be a typical letdown for many viewers and fans alike. It's the same reason why most of the amusement comes from the supporting cast. Even as they deliver with acceptable comic timing, the real fun is in racing back to the days of Atari or annihilating monsters at the gaming arcade. And speaking of nostalgia, look no further than Columbus, the writing genius behind all time classics like The Goonies and Gremlins - films that are as iconic as the Pac-Man and Donkey Kong games. Kids who watched those films or played those games are grownups today but for the most part, Pixels made me feel as invincible as a kid in an arcade. Game on dude!
did get the message but misinterpreted it as a hostile invitation. Who do you call? Ghostbusters zapping aliens pretty much sums up the rest of the film. While the story gets dumber by the minute (inclusive of the clichéd romance between Sandler's Mr. Fixit and Michelle Monaghan's White House official), director Chris Columbus alternates flat gags with solid visuals and iconic characters that wreak havoc on screen. Add to that some madcap moments from Peter Dinklage as the aforementioned narcissist, Gad let loose ala Jonah Hill style from the Jump Street films, and a list of clever cameos, and there's enough reason for Pixels to generate some offbeat excitement.
